Our Honourable Prime Minister has called upon the nation to begin a campaign, Swachhata Hi Seva, Cleanliness is Service, from September 15, 2017 to Gandhi Jayanti ( October 2, 2017). He urged all NGOs, Schools, Colleges, Social, Cultural and Political Leaders, Corporates, Government Officials, Collectors and Sarpanches, to accelerate Swachhata activities during the September 15 – October 2 period.
Honourable Governor of Jharkhand, Smt Draupadi Murmu also desired that the spirit of Honourable Prime Minister’s message must be carried out with full dedication and enthusiasm by educational institutions, colleges and Universities in Jharkhand and suggested an illustrative list of activities that may be taken up , as a part of the above campaign.Tree plantation by students of ICFAI University
Students and faculty members of ICFAI University planted saplings at the University campus in Daladali at a function held recently . Addressing the students on the occasion, Prof ORS Rao,Vice-Chancellor of ICFAI University advised the students to not only plant saplings but also take care of them on day-to-day basis so that the campus becomes hara - bhara". During the recent functions, the University has been gifting saplings to the guests of honour.
Welcoming the audience to the function, Prof ORS Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University said, “Today we are celebrating not only the birthday of the great Engineer, Sir M Visweswaraiah but also the 3rd anniversary of Swatch Bharat Mission. So, the topic for today’s seminar is very appropriate, as it deals with cleanliness in urban areas and also usage of technology to improve Solid Waste management”. “There is a dire need to adopt a comprehensive strategy for Solid Waste Management ,which includes Reduction /Prevention , Reuse , Recycle ( to make new products) ,Recovery ( produce energy from waste) and landfill ( which cannot be processed otherwise) . There is also need to involve and educate the citizens on this so that the strategy can be implemented successfully
Addressing the seminar as Chief Guest , Dr Shailendra Kumar Singh, Dy GM ( Environmental Engg), MECON explained the various steps that need to be taken to manage Solid Waste Management effectively . He also elaborated how technology can be used for proper segregation and processing of waste so that environment is protected.
B.Tech Students of ICFAI University designed an Engineering Model for recycling of “steel scrap” , from unused or abandoned items like vehicles that meet with accidents . The model was prepared by four B.Tech. Semester-I students - Mayank Kumar, Prince Sinha, Vipul Kumar and Anikesh kumar, under the guidance of the faculty members of the University. The model demonstrated how the item is first crushed and later steel parts are segregated through magnetic separators. The segregated steel scrap is then transported by a conveyor to the “Melting Furnace” , where it is melted for “Re-use”.
Another working model (Hand held battery operated fan) was exhibited by Sandeep Kumar of Diploma - Semester III ( mining) student. The battery operated fan was made up of only scraps. The blades were made from used cool-drink bottle, The fan blades were fitted on the cap of a mineral water bottle. The body and the base of the fan were made from waste materials of a deodorant bottle .Conduct of Healthcare Awareness Program at the University for the School Children of Simalia Village - September 25, 2017
The University organized a Social Outreach Program at ICFAI University on September 25, 2017 for 25 Lower and Higher Primary School Children in Simalai. Besides Remedial classes in Physics, Maths and Spoken English, the program covered sessions on Healthcare Awareness. Prof. Arvind Kumar, Assistant Dean, ICFAI University , addressing the students , highlighted the importance of education in the upliftment of the society. The program was then addressed by the Registrar Dr. B.M Singh, who focused on the importance of education and health awareness among children. He shared the motivational and inspirational stories of various legendary persons who have broken all the barriers and achieved a name for themselves. The ICFAI University Jharkhand conducted a cleanliness and health awareness program in the Similia Village, Near Daladali Chowk, Ring road, Ranchi, wherein a number of villagers participated . Dr. B.M Singh, Registrar inaugurated a toilet i.e. Ijjat Ghar in the village. After this, the University officials and villagers cleaned the weeds around and sprayed disinfectants. This was followed by the plantation of saplings. Addressing the villagers, Dr. B. M. Singh focused on the importance of health & hygiene awareness among people. He also shared few inspirational stories about various health awareness practices done by people across India. Few members of the Gram Panchayat also spoke and thanked the ICFAI University for their encouragement and support for this social cause. In this program all the officials, dignitaries, professors and students were present to encourage the villagers towards cleanliness.
