About the Program

The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a three year, six semester, full-time, campus-based program, with a view to impart the students an in-depth academic base in IT and hands-on skills in computer applications so that they can build an advanced career in IT. The program covers cutting-edge technology inputs as well as provides IT skills in programming and application development, as per industry requirements. Students that passed BCA or BSc (IT or Computer Science) Degree, with Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 level or Degree level are eligible for Lateral Entry and join second year (3rd semester) of the program.

    • Pass in BCA or BSc (IT or Computer Science) Degree (with Mathematics as a subject at 10+2 level or Degree level) with 40% and above aggregate marks.
    • Stage 1-Foundation Courses:
      The program will begin with a series of foundation courses which will cover the basics of computers.
    • 2-Tools & Techniques:
      During this stage the students will be imparted in-depth knowledge of various tools and techniques with reference to computer applications. Stage 3-Integrative Courses: At the final stage, the course will take an inter-disciplinary and integrative approach to the subject of computer applications in business.
  • Two years

  • The MCA Program covers 37 courses spread over 3 years in 6 semesters, besides soft skills labs, IT labs, project and Summer Internship. The MCA Program is structured to help the students to achieve the learning objectives in three stages spread over three years.

  • During the 4th to 6th semester, students are exposed to elective courses in the respective field of specialization. These elective courses provide an understanding of the specialized focus fields. Each student is required to select four elective courses out of a basket of courses in areas like Databases, Systems, Programming, Software Engineering, Inter-disciplinary areas and business applications.

    • Discipline Electives:
      A student can choose any four Electives from the following courses
    • Database Area:
      Parallel and Distributed Database Systems, Database Security and Administration, Spatial Databases (including GIS), SQL and Database Applications
    • Systems Area:
      Advanced Operating System, Embedded Systems, Compiler Design, Unix/Linux System Administration
    • Programming Area:
      Programming using C#, Programming using PHP, HTML Programming
    • Software Engineering Area:
      Software Testing and Quality Management, Software Design Patterns, Software Project Management
    • Inter Disciplinary Area:
      Computer Graphics and Image Processing, Multimedia Systems, Bio-Informatics, Neural Network Computing, Robotics
    • Business Solutions Area:
      IT in Banking & Insurance, Management Accounting, Investment Banking & Financial Services, Payment Systems
  • Successful students will receive the MCA degree from the University, subject to University Regulations.
